A Day in the Life of Imberhorne A Level Students at Centre for Sight

After hosting the East Grinstead Business Association (EGBA) Buzz Meet in April, we were thrilled to hear from Imberhorne School. They reached out with the exciting prospect of offering A-level students, interested in medical careers, the chance to spend a day with our team and observe our patients’ vision correction and restoration journeys.

The students enjoyed the chance to put on operating theatre scrubs and observe LIVE eye procedures like Laser Lens Replacement (LLR), Laser Eye Surgery and Cataract surgery. This helped them to get an insight into how a very modern hospital functions.

A bonus was being able to observe cutting-edge technology and techniques used by our professional consultants and medical staff. The students were shown around our East Grinstead centre by ophthalmic consultant Ms Marcela Espinosa who also using schematic videos illustrated the process of surgery and what was involved prior to watching surgery in the operating theatre.

The students who all want to head to medical school watched a number of procedures being performed by Mr. Sheraz Daya, Medical Director of Centre for Sight.

An accompanying teacher from Imberhorne School stated “I believe this experience will have made a significant impact on our students’ career choices and futures”

“An Incredible and unforgettable experience”

Centre for Sight is extremely proud to provide an opportunity to support students and help them experience modern medicine and in particular understanding that patients are the centre of all activity. Being able to see world-class technology and surgery will hopefully set high standards for the future.

One of the students was excited to know how our patients reacted after they had Cataract surgery. She was amazed to see the process of cataract removal under 10 minutes and how efficient the process is in the 21st century.

“It’s a privilege to see the technology involved that allows people the option to improve their vision with little to no risks or complications.”

Laser eye surgery for vision correction as well as Cataract and Laser Lens Replacement have come a long way in the last 20 years as a result of technological advances making treatment faster and more accurate
