Mr Sheraz Daya awarded Fyodorov medal in Athens

Medical Director of Centre for Sight UK Mr Sheraz Daya, was awarded the Fyodorov Medal, on Friday 2nd March 2018 at the 32nd International Congress of the Hellenic Society of Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery (HSIOIRS) in Athens, Greece.

President Elect of HSIOIRS; Miltos Balidis presented the Mr Daya’s award in great honour and on behalf of Greek Ophthalmologists with whom Mr Sheraz Daya has had great association for over 20 years.

The Fyodorov Medal is presented every 2 years and Mr. Sheraz Daya was the 10th recipient. The medal is awarded to an ophthalmologist who has made considerable contribution to the field of refractive surgery (surgery to correct the need for glasses and contact lenses).

Mr. Daya was a pioneer in laser eye surgery in the early 1990’s and introduced and taught the laser eye procedure LASIK to the United Kingdom.

He also introduced a number of milestone technologies including the Femtosecond laser for laser eye surgery and cataract surgery. He has published and spoken internationally on new developments to which he has contributed.

He is presently consultant and medical monitor to Technolas, Bausch and Lomb, manufacturers of lasers used in refractive and cataract surgery.

The medal is in honor of Prof. Svyatoslav Nikolayevich Fyodorov an internationally renowned Russian ophthalmic surgeon who pioneered Radial keratotomy – the Russian technique for correcting shortsight and was the founder of the famous S.N. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Complex.
